Former bus driver makes child porn of 15-year-old student, gets life in prison

William Napolitano, who received life in prison for child sexual abuse

A Florida judge on Thursday (6 December) sentenced a school employee to life in prison for child sexual assault, as well as producing and distributing child pornography.

William Napolitano, 35, was the former Pasco County School District transportation manager.

He pleaded guilty to coercing a minor to engage in sexual activity and possessing child porn in federal court in August.

Napolitano began working with the school district as a bus driver, before being promoted to transportation manager.

Court documents described his interest in having sex with children as something that ‘descended to depths of depravity that are hard to fathom’. They also said he’s a ‘constant threat to society’.

The upsetting details

According to Napolitano’s plea deal, he began soliciting a 15-year-old student on Grindr in 2014. He allegedly enticed the student to engage in sexual acts, knowing the student’s age.

Officials stated the sexual relationship between Napolitano and the student continued for years.

He also reportedly invited the student to view his collection of child pornography, watch child porn on the internet, and participate in group sex with adults and other minors.

Napolitano also allegedly produced child porn of the student and distributed it.

Napolitano’s attorney, John Traveno, was not happy with the sentence.

‘This man [Napolitano] had engaged in substantial cooperation with the federal government. He pleaded guilty early in the case, so what is his reward — the maximum? It’s just not fair,’ he said.

According to Rule 35 of the US’ federal criminal procedure, the government can look at Napolitano’s case in a couple of years and possibly change or reduce his sentence, or see if he’s eligible for parole.
