U.S. women’s soccer team to play at Levi’s in advance of World Cup

Jill Ellis, the head coach of the U.S. women’s national soccer team, has made no secret of how much she enjoys her team’s appearances in the Bay Area.
So, it’s no surprise that the U.S. team will make a Northern California stop on its “Countdown to the Cup” tour in advance of the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France as the team sets its sights on a fourth World Cup championship.
What is a surprise, however, is the choice of venue: rather than play at Avaya Stadium as in recent years, the women will take on the vast expanses of Levi’s Stadium.
Arguably the most popular national team in the country, the U.S. women will play South Africa on May 12 — a Sunday afternoon — at Levi’s, which holds 68,500.
