Martin Jones, Joe Thornton standouts as Sharks top Hurricanes

The Sharks took a step forward Wednesday in their effort to gain traction after spending the first third of the season skating in quick sand.
Five skaters scored goals, Joe Thornton added three assists and Martin Jones made 39 saves as San Jose skated past the Hurricanes 5-1 at SAP Center.
“We were the harder, heavier team out there,” Sharks forward Kevin Labanc said. “We were good in our own zone and didn’t give them much. We just have to stick with it and carry it into our next game.”
The Sharks have won consecutive games for the first time since Nov. 11-13.
