Giants viewing the fast lane from afar

Farhan Zaidi knew that when he took the job as the Giants’ president of baseball operations, it would be the equivalent of driving into a ditch. He’s a little bit stuck, between tearing down the roster and salvaging enough pieces to prevent a 2019 disaster.
We don’t know what he thinks about trading Madison Bumgarner, or whether it’s worth spending an enormous chunk of the available finances on Bryce Harper. We do know that as the Giants lay plans for the offseason, the rest of the league isn’t waiting around.
The Eastern Division has become a gold mine of big-time acquisitions, from the Mets (Robinson Cano, Edwin Diaz) to the Phillies (Jean Segura) to the Braves (Josh Donaldson) to the Nationals (Patrick Corbin).
