A gay fitness instructor has been found beaten to death inside his apartment.
Police discovered Brendon Michaels had been murdered inside his home in Baltimore on 8 November.
He was 43.
Michaels was hired as a full-time fitness instructor at Carroll Community College in 1999, when he was 24 years old.
He had also graduated from the school in 1998 with an associate degree in arts and sciences.
He was then named coordinator of the Carroll Community College Fitness Center in 2008. Michaels then became a certified personal trainer in 2014.
‘We are extraordinarily sad to hear about the passing of our beloved friend and staff member Brendon Michaels,’ said Carroll Community College President James Ball.
‘Brendon was a vibrant and well-respected member of the college community for over 20 years.’
‘He was high energy, passionate about fitness and always willing to help anyone in need,’ added Ball.
‘Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. Brendon will be truly missed and will never be forgotten.’
On social media, friends and family have also paid tribute to him online.
An old roomate wrote: ‘Brandon, you will be forever missed. I never forgot the good times we shared when we lived together. God Rest Your Soul. RIP’
Investigators have not identified a positive motive, according to the Baltimore Sun. Police have not made any arrests in connection with the murder.
Michaels, who also worked as a waiter at the Olive Garden, won $50,000 in the Maryland lottery in 2011.
