A’s fail to clinch at home, fall 5-1 to Twins

With a good-sized crowd on hand Sunday for the final home game of the season, the A’s wanted to clinch a postseason spot at the Coliseum to celebrate in front of their fans. Instead, they’ll have to clinch on the road.
A bad throw by Gold Glove candidate Matt Chapman prevented a potential inning-ending double play in the Twins’ three-run fourth inning, but the A’s shot at clinching was thwarted as much by minimal offense as anything else. Oakland got a homer by Matt Olson and nothing more in a 5-1 loss to Minnesota in a regular-season home finale that drew 35,754.
“It’s a little disappointing,” A’s manager Bob Melvin said. “Everybody here wanted to take care of this today at home.
