Mended, winner of 10 straight races, is retired

Mended, who won 10 straight races after being claimed at Golden Gate Fields by trainer John F. Martin and then ran competitively in graded stakes, has been retired.
After the 5-year-old mare finished fifth in the Tranquility Lake Stakes on Aug. 24 at Del Mar, she was sent to Taylor Made Farm in Lexington, Ky.
“She’s the best horse I’ve trained so far and the best claim I’ve made so far,” Martin said. “It feels really good to be able to retire her in good shape knowing she’ll be in Kentucky and be a broodmare and live well.”
Martin claimed Mended for $12,500 out of a fourth-place finish Jan. 6, 2017 on behalf of owners Troy and Maritza Onorato, who live in Daly City.
