Cal senior tight end Ray Hudson joked that he considered switching his phone to “do not disturb” mode this summer.
He would barely get settled at home after a morning workout, and quarterback Ross Bowers was already texting about a player-run practice in the afternoon and a throwing session later that night.
“You’ve got to act and prepare like a champion before you can be one,” Bowers said. “We have the year of experience now. We have every type of internal motivation that you need from going 5-7. We have an opportunity in front of us, with a clean slate, and we don’t want to waste it.
“We’re trying to change the culture here, and we understand that takes work.
