Bay Bridge Series packed with intrigue and fans

Spread over two weekends, the Bay Bridge Series had everything but interviews with the furniture. I gave it a shot, before Sunday’s game, but the chair in the visitors’ bullpen didn’t feel like talking.

That chair, grabbed by the Giants’ Mark Melancon and damned by the A’s Stephen Piscotty in the ninth inning of Saturday night’s game, helped give this interleague event the kind of identity it always lacked. There was so little intrigue in past years, you wondered if the games even counted — but those days are over.
