A growing wildfire that ignited Saturday in rural Lake County south of Kelseyville prompted mandatory evacuations as firefighters from multiple agencies responded the scene, officials said.
The Carder Fire erupted around 2:40 p.m. and quickly grew to 60 acres as it devoured dry grass, brush and trees, officials with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said.
Residents along Adobe Creek Road, Peterson Lane, and Wight Way near where the fire started were ordered to evacuate, firefighters said. Officials did not say how many homes were threatened.
The fire is burning about 10 miles south of Clear Lake in an area that has been ravaged by wildfire in recent years.
