HOUSTON — Dustin Fowler’s series against the Astros wasn’t much fun, and manager Bob Melvin gave the rookie outfielder the day off Thursday.
“Especially for a younger guy — it seems like every game adds to his frustration, so we’ll give him a little bit of a break,” Melvin said. “It’s been a pretty frustrating series for him, for obvious reasons.”
Fowler was 1-for-16 in the first three games at Minute Maid Park, striking out seven times (including five times Monday), when he did not get much benefit of the doubt on strike calls.
“It’s frustrating, especially with a guy like Gerrit Cole on the mound — if he throws you a ball, you want to take it,” Fowler said Thursday morning.
