Two dead after vehicle and light rail train collide in San Jose

Two people are dead after a vehicle collided with a light rail train in San Jose on Sunday, according to the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority.

The vehicle made contact with a northbound train near Lincoln and Auzerais avenues at 12:34 p.m., a VTA spokeswoman said. Two people in the vehicle sustained fatal injuries.

No injuries were reported among the roughly 20 passengers on board the train at the time. A damaged overhead pole and wires will need repair, the VTA said.

The VTA is operating a bus bridge between the Convention Center and Fruitdale stations on the Winchester-Mountain View Line. The service is every 30 minutes.
