Large brush fire forces evacuations near Moraga high school

A large brush fire broke out Monday afternoon in Moraga, forcing home evacuations on a residential hillside behind Campolindo High School, officials said.

The fire broke out near Highway 24 and Morago Road and consumed about 15 acres, according to the Moraga Fire Department. By 4:30 pm, the fire was fully contained.

Precautionary evacuations were ordered for 20 homes, officials said.

Moraga police advised the public to stay clear of Moraga Road and the Buckingham neighborhood, even though no structures were burned.

The fire was big enough to be visible from Lafayette.

Cal Fire also responded to the scene.
